Star Wars: Fit for a Queen

Return of the Jedi: Enslaved by Jabba the Hutt, Leia is forced to wear a revealing slave girl outfit. Constructed of gold and Lashaa silk and featuring Jerba leather boots, the bikini may be skimpy and scandalous, but Leia totally rocks it.

Design: Designing such an ensemble for the normally-modest Leia proved a challenge for RotJ costume designer, Nilo Rodis-Jamero. "George always talked about a slave girl outfit. I kept thinking, how am I going to do this in style? I mean, this is Leia. I actually struggled with that for a long time, and all I kept coming up with was clunky, Ben Hur kind of stuff." The design was eventually perfected though, and this costume is revered by male Star Wars fans the world over. Carrie Fisher had quite a different take on her famed costume though: "It was the bikini from hell. Like steel, not steel but hard plastic, and if you stood behind me you could see straight to Florida. You'll have to ask Boba Fett about that."
