Odds and ends
Hello hello! Sorry I took a week off unannounced. I had this hugely important standardized test to take on Saturday for graduate school admissions so I had to be all productive and scholarly. It wasn't fun at all, but at least it's over now! And as it is April, here are this months calenders: by Annarwaya and by LillyLeeper. Thanks so much, girls, for your beautiful work!
Also, Ben sent in a link to the United States Post Office's Star Wars stamp contest! In celebration of Star Wars' 30th anniversary, they're releasing a whole bunch of Star Wars stamps - including one of Padme in the Throne Room gown! - and you can vote for the favorite. So go vote (for Padme, of course!) Thanks, Ben! And Queen Otilia has been doing some research into the symbolism of Padme's costumes and she found some really interesting stuff. Here's what she has to say: "Recently I saw again the mini series 'The Mists of Avalon' on one of the Hungarian TV channels and of course I liked it again :). BUT! one motive captured my eyes and my fantasy: I realised how similar the costume of Vivian, the Lady of The Lake and Padme's Water Gown are!! So I decided to make a short picture-compare followed by my lines about the REASON of this similarity which is not an accident any at all! ;) The answer is that both of these costumes are coming from the same root, the theme of the Water Goddess, which is an analogical representation of the fact that the Female Principle is usually matched with the element of Water. We don't need a long argument about how closely Padme is connected to water :). And the figure of Vivian /played fantasticly by Angelica Huston/ is a high priestess wearing the title of 'Lady of The Lake'. And working on this mini project of mine I found another similarity: the Moon. For thousands of years the symbol of the Moon was used as the sign of the Goddess, and through this - female magic and fertility. Well, I think it's not a wonder that Padme wears the Goddess-sign on her head when she's expecting not one, but two children... ;) :)) In AOTC she wears the Sun on her head - Refugee Disguise-, but that's another story. In the Mists of Avalon, the temple of Avalon, which is the centre of the Goddess-cult is placed in a parallel dimension surrounded by water, so the only way to reach there is by boat. Here we can remember the coffin of Padme which is also a symbolical boat. I also attached a picture about how ironically, there are two boats in the prequel trilogy - one represents Life, the other is Death..." Very interesting, Otillia! Thanks for your pictures and info! Finally, Claire also sent in some interesting pictures. She and her boyfriend were watching the recent Miss USA pageant, and Miss Missouri was wearing what she calls a "tear away/super slinky version of the return home dress/outfit... I know it's a jump from SW outfits, but it gave both of us that SW influenced vibe." Here are some pictures: Gown 1, Gown 2. Neat! Thanks, Claire!! Thanks to everyone for their submissions, and more updates and fan art will be coming soon! Posted on Tuesday Apr. 03, 2007 20:44 by Adi
"Leia Buns" Cloak
Just a quick little update today, as I'm busy with finals and such! (But after this week I have two weeks off. Two weeks off = lots of time for the site) I've updated the "Leia Buns" Cloak with some new stuff. I found an even bigger version of this picture and added a bunch of new screencaps, such as this and this. This costume is really starting to grow on me. I was pretty neutral towards it for a while, but I really like it now!

March!
I know I say this every month, but I really can't believe it's March. This year has just been flying by... before I know it, I'm going to have to graduate (and I really don't want to!) But because it is March, Annarwaya has made a great Padme/Anakin calender and TwinkleStarLeah has made a cute Leia and Threepio calender. Thanks, girls! Also, Sommor sent in this nice uncolored version of the Tatooine Blue dress concept art and sldaly sent in a beautiful new concept art for Padme's funeral. Thank you both!
